Connecticut State Gambling
Connecticut has not been involved in any of the recent state discussions related to online gambling. Currently there are no forms of online gambling allowed in Connecticut. There are several choices for more traditional forms of gambling. These include off track betting, reservation casinos, a state lottery and bingo.
Connecticut Horse and Greyhound Racing
While horse and greyhound racing are legal in Connecticut, there are no tracks that currently operate. While there are no live races, off track betting is very popular in Connecticut. There are over a dozen off track betting parlors within the state. Some off track businesses are dedicated solely to the betting, while others are offered to patrons at sports bars and restaurants. In addition to off track betting, phone wagering is also accepted on greyhounds and horses.
Connecticut State Lottery
The Connecticut State Lottery launched in 1971. Connecticut’s lottery offers lotto drawings and scratch off tickets. Connecticut participates in multi state lotto drawings. These multi state drawings include Powerball and Mega Millions.
Connecticut only allows casino style gambling on reservations. There are two reservation casinos in Connecticut. Those casinos are Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. They are among the largest casinos in the world.
Foxwoods is located in Mashantucket, CT. Foxwoods opened in 1986 as a bingo hall. In 1992, table games were added. In 1993, slots and video poker were added. Foxwoods pays the State of Connecticut 25% of the casino’s slot win. Foxwoods offers a 100 table poker room, thousands of slots, as well as 350 table games. Table games include Baccarat, Blackjack, Caribbean Stud, Casino War, Craps, Crazy 4 Poker, In Bet In Between, Let it Ride, Money Wheel, Paigow Poker, Paigow Tiles, Roulette, Sic Bo, Spanish 21 and Three Card Poker. There is also a large race book offered. The world’s largest bingo hall can be found at the Foxwoods Resort.
Mohegan Sun is located in Uncasville, CT. While not as large as Foxwoods, it is still an extremely large resort. Like Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun pays 25% of their slot win to the State of Connecticut. Mohegan Sun offers slot machines, video poker, table games, a race book and poker. The poker room has over 40 tables. Table games include Baccarat, Midi-Baccarat, Mini-Baccarat, Blackjack, Caribbean Stud, Craps, Four Card Poker, Let it Ride, Pai Gow Poker, Pai Gow Tiles, Roulette, Sic Bo, Spanish 21, Texas Hold’em Bonus and Three Card Poker.
Commercial bingo is only allowed on the reservations. Charitable bingo is allowed throughout the state. Raffles fall under the charitable bingo law.
