Plaza Poker Room Relaunches

The poker room at the Plaza in downtown Las Vegas relaunched this morning at 10am.  The poker room hosts three PokerPro electronic poker tables distributed by Pokertek.  The poker room offers a number of promotions.  The Plaza hopes to capture the Omaha market in Las Vegas with rake specials and low buyin games.  Pot Limit Omaha and Pot Limit Omaha High/Low will be available with blinds as low as $.25/$.50.

We caught up with Ed Peterson, Director of Slots at the Plaza and sister property Las Vegas Club.  We asked him a few questions about what players can expect from the newest poker room in Las Vegas.

USPoker: What games are available?

DSCF2519Ed Peterson: Texas Hold ‘em, Omaha, Stud and Razz are all available but we will be focusing on Omaha and Texas Hold’em.

USPoker: How does a player buy into a game?

Ed Peterson: The first time a customer plays in our room, he creates an account by submitting proper ID. We scan the ID, allow the customer to select a PIN number, and then take a cash deposit. We give the customer an account card and they’re ready to play. It’s very safe and secure. It is separate from Royal Rewards, the Plaza’s rewards club.

USPoker: Why would a player choose PokerPro machines over live tables?

Ed Peterson: It’s simple – – it’s a better game. It’s faster. It’s more accurate. It’s less expensive, for both us (manpower and supplies/equipment) and players (lower stakes, lower rakes, no tipping obligation). It’s pure poker for the professional/advanced player. And yet, it’s less intimidating to the new or casual players. You can’t act out of turn, make the wrong bet, say the wrong thing, etc.

USPoker: What are the poker room’s hours?

Ed Peterson: We will open at 10 a.m. every day with a daily tournament.

USPoker: What comps are available to players?

Ed Peterson: Drinks: The poker room is very close to the waitress station at the Omaha Bar – – maybe too close!  We will offer a 20% hotel discount for four hours of play, per day. The reservation must be made in advance through the Plaza website or by calling the hotel direct. The discount is not good with any other previous discounts, nor on reservations via online wholesalers, i.e. Expedia.

USPoker: What is the rake?

Ed Peterson: 10% with a maximum of $3 generally, and we’ll rake $1 on pots of $10 or more for promotions. But in certain games, times and promotions they will be lowered or even removed.

USPoker: What games were spread during the test period?

Ed Peterson: 50c/$1 and $1/$2 No Limit Hold ‘em, $1/$2 and $2/4 Limit Hold ‘em, 25c/50c and 50c/$1 PLO and PLO HiLo, as well as several NLHE Sit & Go’s.

USPoker: What promotions can players expect from the Plaza poker room?

Ed Peterson:  We will have a Royal Flush Jackpot and a weekly Freeroll Tournament as well.
