PokerStars is planning another live event in Atlantic City, the PokerStars Megastack Series. The event comes a year after its PokerStars Festival New Jersey fell flat.

This time around, the world’s largest online poker site, and the biggest fish in New Jersey’s online poker pond will be bringing its PokerStars Megastack live poker tournament series to the Resorts Casino Hotel from October 6 to 8, 2017.

Building on the UK’s PokerStars Megastack success

PokerStars is hoping a successful debut in the UK, where the series drew over 520 entries to London’s Hippodrome Casino in April, will translate into success on this side of the Atlantic, where it’s PokerStars Festival failed to do so in 2016.

PokerStars NJ Festival fell flat

PokerStars Festival New Jersey was held at the end of October and first week in November 2016. It marked the return of PokerStars live events team to the United States for the first time in close to six years. However, most of the events saw sparse attendance and some were canceled.

It appeared a lack of market familiarity, poor projections, a limited marketing effort, and no guaranteed prize pools hurt attendance. All issues the PokerStars team is looking to recify with their Megastack series.

Taking aim at recreational players

Now, the response is a shorter series better aimed at recreational poker players. Plus, it will include a main event based on PokerStarsNJ’s most popular weekly tournament online. The PokerStars Megastack series will also feature a $100,000 guaranteed prize pool.

According to a press release, the PokerStars Megastack series is designed to bring live poker to players’ doorsteps at a low buy-in level. These events are also aimed at creating an exceptional live poker experience. Plus, PokerStars wants to offer a platform for players to build their way towards competing in PokerStars Championship and PokerStars Festival events.

PokerStars says its Megastack series also demonstrate its commitment to growing the game locally and investing in local poker communities.

$100,000 guaranteed Sunday Special Live

To that aim, The New Jersey PokerStars Megastack series will include a $220 Sunday Special Live event. The Sunday Special Live name originates from the PokerStarsNJ Sunday Special $50,000 guaranteed event. This live event will feature a $100,000 guaranteed prize pool.

“PokerStars Megastack is the perfect opportunity for players to enjoy a great live poker experience at an affordable buy-in to see if they can turn a Megastack into a mega prize,” Team PokerStars Pro Chris Moneymaker said. “Players can expect an awesome poker experience and more importantly get together with friends to play poker while having fun.”

The marketing effort is kicking off much earlier compared to last year’s New Jersey PokerStars Festival marketing. In fact, PokerStars is committed to running satellites into the event early and often. Through these PokerStars online satellites, players can qualify for the Sunday Special Live for as little as $0.50.

Chip In for Autism

In addition to the Megastack series, PokerStars is helping the New Jersey Chapter of Autism Speaks host its own Fall event. The Chip In for Autism live event will go off at White Eagle Hall in Jersey City on October 21, 2017. The event will feature poker games with prizes including smartphones, virtual reality devices, smartwatches, and tablets. Plus, there will be a cocktail reception, open bar, a raffle, and casino-style games.

The aim is to honor Kerry Magro and Bill and Michele Sorvino for their dedication to Autism Speaks. Tickets are available on the Autism Speaks website.
