This will be the first year ever that American players will be able to enter the WSOP through online satellites that are endorsed by the actual event. Players will be able to play at WSOP.com in a special “Grind Room” in the Rio Convention Center. This room will be set up for the sole purpose of providing access to WSOP.com.

Players do not have to connect to WSOP.com from Rio. It is available almost anywhere in Nevada where there is an Internet connection and cell phone reception.

WSOP.com will be spreading satellites to many events. These will range from $5.50 rebuy and addons all the way up to a $5,000 heads up sit and go. There are several reasons why playing online poker satellites are better than line ones.

Lower Rake

Depending on the level of buyin, the rake in online satellites range between 6% for $500 buyins up to 10% for events that are under $100. The satellites in the tournament rooms at Rio will start at 10% rake for high buyins and run over 20% for tournaments under $200.

Deposit Bonuses

WSOP will offer a 100% up to $1,000 first deposit bonus during the World Series of Poker. There will also be a 100% up to $1,000 reload bonus for players that make a cash cage deposit at Rio during the WSOP. Both bonuses release at a rate of 20% rakeback. This does not include the WSOP Action Club that awards players straight cash based on rake paid and the level achieved.

Lower Buyins

The cheapest way to satellite into a WSOP event at Rio is the $75 Turbo Mega tournaments at 9am daily. Sit and gos will start over $100 and many will be over $200.

WSOP.com will offer satellites starting at $5.50. There are also ways to qualify for the $1,500 and $10,000 seat freerolls by depositing and giving cash game, sit and go, or multi table tournament action.

Lower Variance Online

Sit and go satellites will be offered at WSOP.com. The structures for these tournaments will be far less of a crapshoot than the live ones. Multi table tournaments will also have favorable structures online compared to live counterparts.

One disadvantage is that players will be unable to make deals online. The advertised prize pool cannot be modified, regardless of whether there is an agreement among players. Live satellite players may still make deals.

Will Not Have to Wait for Tables or Dealers

One annoyance at the WSOP can be a lack of dealers or tables during busy periods. This will not be an issue at WSOP.com. As soon as there are enough players for a sit and go, the satellite will launch at any hour of the day.

One of the appeals of playing online poker is the ability to play more than one game at the same time. This makes playing at WSOP.com advantageous as players can enter multiple satellites at the same time or combine cash game action with it.
