New Jersey’s Online Poker Operators Continue To Tweak Sunday Tournament Schedule
Contents
This week only three of the New Jersey online poker tournaments tracked by USPoker had overlays.
Only one of the three flagship events, PokerStars ambitious $50k guarantee, was in the red.
All told, there was roughly $5,500 of extra value up for grabs on Sunday.
Once again, New Jersey’s online poker operators offer up over $200,000 in tournament guarantees across their signature Sunday events. Here’s a look at how the biggest tournaments at each site fared last Sunday.

The $40k Guarantee
The Borgata/partypoker/playMGM online poker network hosts a $40,000 guaranteed tournament every Sunday. The tournament has a $215 buy-in, $15 of which goes to tournament fees. That works out to a seven percent rake.
The network easily surpassed its guarantee this past Sunday, as 220 entries generated a $44,000 prize-pool.
MTT | Start Time | Buy-In | GTD | Entries | Prize-Pool | Overlay |
SUNDAY $40K GTD NLH [3X RE] + BONUS | 5:00pm | $215 | $40,000 | 220 | $ 44,000 | – |
Schedule shakeup at Borgata/partypoker/playMGM
The Borgata/partypoker/MGM network runs a full slate of Sunday tournaments at a variety of different price-points designed to work for any budget.
There were a few changes to the rest of the network’s Sunday schedule, as the following changes went into effect this weekend:
- The 8 p.m. Wrap Up has been removed and replaced by the Sunday $535 – $20K GTD, which starts at 6:30 p.m.
- The 6 p.m. Sunday Seconds has been moved to 8 p.m.
The changes seem to have had a positive effect.
Two weeks ago, four of the five tournaments were unable to reach their guarantees, this past week only a single tournament failed to meet its guarantee.

PokerStars High-Roller returns with a bang
The $50k Sunday Special
PokerStars is home to the largest weekly guaranteed tournament in the New Jersey market, which also happens to be the least expensive. The Sunday Special at PokerStars NJ features a $200 buy-in and a $50,000 guarantee, making it $15 cheaper and $10,000 richer than its competitors’ flagship Sunday events.
The tournament is raked at seven percent, as $186 of the $200 entry fee goes to the prize pool, and $14 to tournament fees.
Even though attendance was up for the second straight week, there was still a $1,450 overlay in the PokerStars NJ Sunday Special.
MTT | Buy-In | GTD | Entries | Prize-Pool | Overlay |
Sunday Special $50K GTD (Reentry) | $200 | $50,000 | 261 | $ 50,000 | $1,454 |
More signature Sunday events from PokerStars NJ
In addition to the Sunday Special, PokerStars NJ hosts two other major Sunday tournaments with guarantees of $10k and $15k respectively. Neither of these tournaments offered an overlay this past weekend.

Pala tournaments continue to offer the best value
The consistent overlays across all of Pala’s tournaments should be a huge draw for New Jersey poker players, and why more players aren’t taking advantage of the substantial overlays at Pala Poker and the site’s welcome bonus is a complete mystery to US Poker.
The tournaments may not have big prize-pools, but value-wise you’d be hard pressed to find better tournaments anywhere in the poker world.
As it’s still in beta, Pala Poker is only offering a daily schedule at this point.
The daily schedule is highlighted by two $10 buy-in, $250 guaranteed events.
This week one of the events, the six-handed turbo, was canceled, while the full ring turbo attracted nine players, leading to an overlay of $160.
Start Time | Tournament | Buy-in | Guarantee |
8:00 pm | Nightly $250 Gtd NLHE Turbo | $10 | $250 |
8:30 pm | Nightly $250 Gtd (6-Handed) NLHE Turbo | Cancelled |
Wsop.com-888 avoids overlays
The $40k Warrior
Every Sunday, the WSOP.com and 888 network host “The Warrior,” a $215 buy-in tournament with a $40,000 guarantee. The rake for the Warrior is the same seven percent that you’ll find at other sites.
Like most of the major tournaments across New Jersey’s online poker sites, the Warrior tournament avoided an overlay this week.
MTT | Buy-In | GTD | Entries | Prize-Pool | Overlay |
$215 The Warrior $40K GTD (Reentry) | $215 | $40,000 | 210 | $ 42,000 | – |
