PokerStars Bumps Up MICOOP Main Event Guarantee for Michigan Players

PokerStars’ first online poker series in Michigan appears to be a hit. The site doubled guarantees last weekend in the Michigan Championship of Online Poker (MICOOP).

PokerStars also announced Wednesday that it’s giving even more value to Michigan online poker players. The site has raised the Main Event guarantee from $125,000 to $200,000.

More money on the line for Michigan PokerStars players

PokerStars launched in Michigan in late January and remains the only operator in the market. The company quickly announced the MICOOP would kick off as the state’s first online poker series.

The $300 MICOOP Main Event runs March 7-8. This will crown the most prestigious online tournament winner in the state so far.

“We are heading into the final stretch of what has been a fantastic run in Michigan where we have had thousands of entries and record prize pools,” PokerStars associate director or public relations Rebecca McAdam Willetts said in a news release.

“We are again thrilled to increase the value on offer to our players competing in the Main Event.”

Plenty of MICOOP tournament options

The MICOOP series includes 60 tournaments with buy-ins ranging from $10 to $500. Players have found numerous game options including No Limit Hold’em, Pot Limit Omaha, Five Card Draw, and mixed games.

MICOOP has already received significant support from the Michigan online poker community. The series runs through March 8 and originally included a $1 million overall guarantee.

The site has now increased that significantly with the recent guarantee increases. That original total has already been surpassed.

Through Day 9 (March 1), the total paid out had already reached $1.2 million. That included 35 of 37 events exceeding their guarantees.

The series has at least initially shown that Michigan players are eager to get in the online poker action. The state is the company’s third US market with “fenced in” platforms also in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
