Game On: Scott Seiver Takes on Phil Hellmuth in PokerGO’s ‘High Stakes Duel’ This Week
After Tom Dwan bowed out of PokerGO’s High Stakes Duel against Phil Hellmuth last week, longtime poker pro Scott Seiver has jumped in to take his place.
The company announced on Friday that Seiver will serve as Phil Hellmuth’s new opponent for High Stakes Duel III Round 4. The episode is set for Tuesday at 8 pm ET at the PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas with $800,000 on the line.
Certainly finding a player willing to put up $400,000 wasn’t easy on such short notice. However, Seiver seems up for the challenge.
“This program has been a must-watch event each episode so far,” Seiver told PokerGO about the facing Hellmuth, “and I wanted an opportunity to be a part of the action and hopefully add my own mark on it.”
What to expect
Seiver is no stranger to poker fans and brings plenty of success to the table including major televised action. In a career spanning more than 15 years, he’s amassed $24.4 million in live tournament winnings.
That has included three World Series of Poker bracelets and one World Poker Tour title. Along with those resumé bullet points, Seiver has also scored big on some of the games biggest stages – from PokerStars‘ EuropeanPoker Tour to Aria High Rollers to the Super High Roller Bowl.
Hellmuth will have his hands full, but brings plenty of success to the table in the High Stakes Duel format. After going 3-0 against Antonio Esfandiari and Daniel Negreanu, he beat Nick Wright for seven straight wins.
Dwan then recorded the first victory in the series over Hellmuth. But the Poker Brat bounced back with a win in a rematch. Seiver and Hellmuth now face off in the largest High Stakes Duel match yet.

Look for plenty of table talk
The two players have met at the table on several occasions. Seiver is 13-8 in heads-up matchups and will look to improve that record against Hellmuth. He also may bring something different to the action.
“It is impossible to not respect Phil Hellmuth’s poker game because the results speak for themselves, however, where his talent lies is probably most misunderstood by the general public as opposed to those with a more nuanced view,” Seiver said. “His game is speech play, but he is one of the best in the world at it.”
Never afraid of some chit-chat at the tables, Seiver has promised to mix it up with Hellmuth beyond the chips and cards.
“There will be trash talk before and during 100 percent,” he said.
Hellmuth saw plenty of that in his recent appearance in PokerGO’s Heads-Up Showdown as well. He and Maverick Gaming CEO Eric Persson were involved in quite a dustup that left Hellmuth receiving a bit of his own verbal aggressiveness. Persson went on to win that match and recently spoke with USPoker about the incident.
Now facing another tough customer, Hellmuth will look to get back to his winning ways on High Stakes Duel. Getting there won’t be easy however, and the upcoming match should make for some interesting viewing.
