New Jersey Online Poker Sites Sweeten The Pot With Almost $15k In Overlays On Sunday

New Jersey’s online poker operators offer up over $200,000 in tournament guarantees across their signature Sunday events, and this week they fell short of those guarantees by around $15,000.
Here’s a look at how the biggest tournaments at each site fared last Sunday.
Overlays in five of six tournaments at Borgata-party-MGM
The $40k Guarantee
The Borgata/partypoker/MGM online poker network hosts a $40,000 guarantee tournament every Sunday. The tournament has a $215 buy-in, $15 of which goes to tournament fees, which works out to a seven percent rake.
The winner of the Sunday $40K GTD usually pockets somewhere in the neighborhood of $8,000 – $10,000, depending on the number of entries.
The tournament missed its guarantee by $2,200 this past Sunday, and “T1mB3y_B33F” took home the top prize of $8,000.

The Borgata/party/MGM network runs a full slate of Sunday tournaments at a variety of different price-points designed to work for any budget.
Last weekend, four of the five tournaments were unable to reach their guarantees.

One player, in particular, took full advantage of the overlays. A player using the screen-name “pay4medsch00l” finished seventh in the Sunday $40k for $2,040, and won the Sunday Seconds, pocketing another $3,200.

PokerStars forced to cancel the Sunday High Roller
The $50k Sunday Special
PokerStars is home to the largest weekly guaranteed tournament in the New Jersey online poker market, which also happens to be the least expensive. The Sunday Special at PokerStars NJ features a $200 buy-in and a $50,000 guarantee, making it $15 cheaper and $10,000 richer than its competitors’ flagship Sunday events.
The tournament is raked seven percent; $186 of the $200 entry-fee goes to the prize-pool and $14 to tournament fees.
This past week’s Sunday Special tournament saw an uptick in attendance, but still produced a substantial overlay of nearly $3,400.

In addition to the Sunday Special, PokerStars NJ usually hosts Sunday tournaments with guarantees of $10k and $15k respectively. I say usually because the Sunday High Roller was canceled.

Pala’s small events among the best value
The consistent overlays across all of Pala’s tournaments should be a huge draw for New Jersey online poker players.
Pala Poker is still in beta, and as such it hasn’t created a signature Sunday event yet. The site does offer a offers a consistent daily tournament schedule Monday – Sunday.
This was the first week of Pala’s new tournament schedule.
The $20 buy-in, $500 guaranteed daily tournament was replaced by two $10 buy-in, $250 guaranteed events, but cutting the buy-in and lowering the guarantee didn’t change much, as both tournaments attracted 15 runners, and had an overlay of over $100.

The $40k Warrior
Every Sunday, the WSOP.com and 888 network host “The Warrior,” a $215 buy-in tournament with a $40,000 guarantee. The rake for the Warrior is the same seven percent that you’ll find at other sites.
The tournament fell well short of its guarantee this past Sunday, and the 888-WSOP network had to cough up $2,600 in overlay money.
